      Description

      Steps to reproduce the bug:

      1. Go to /register
      2. Register a user with a certain email
      3. Follow the register instructions with that email
      4. Logout
      5. Go to /register again
      6. Register a user with the same email used in step 2 but with a space in the end
      7. Follow the register instructions with that email

If this steps are followed, DSpace will create two users with the same email, but one of them with a space in the end. It seems that DSpace does not perform a 'trim' on the emails when checking if they already exists in the system or at the moment of saving them in the database. Furthermore, Dspace sends the email with the registration instructions to the same email address whether it has a space at the end or not.
